I'm giving this place a 5 star, as it's worth every bit of it compared with other mom-n-pop places. I've been there quite a few times, either with family or my girlfriend, and I leave happy all the time. Their prices are excellent, they have a very large selection of different kinds of foods, and the portions let you leave with lunch for the next day. To top if off, service has always been excellent. It's not much to look at as it's a bit dated, but you'd be hard pressed to find another place like this with such a value. Some of you may be wondering about the parking. Rule #1: Slow down and make sure you don't drive past the place. Rule #2: Park in the back or on the side. I'm not sure if there is actually real parking in the front or not, but it's best to be avoided either way. I've never really gone there for any sort of agenda other than enjoying the company I'm with in a relaxed environment. It's a place where the food comes second in my book, but plays perfectly into the nonchalant experience. That's not to say that the food is bad. I just don't go there expecting to indulge in an articulated complex array of flavors, licking my plate and wishing for more. It's kind of like a really good coney place, except with lots and lots more options. In fact, I got soup (I ate it with a couple bread rolls), eggplant Parmesan, and sherbet last time I went. My family and I were pleasantly surprised when we were told that all of our meals came with dessert. You just don't see places where desert comes by default anymore! Days after, the leftover eggplant Parmesan hit the spot too, and is something I highly recommend to anyone. It's not fancy, but it sure is filling and tasty! I also attribute the five stars to the experiences I've had here over the years. My grandma used to take me here all the time, which is something that unfortunately will never happen again. I hope the Royal Cafe will stay around long enough for me to make many more memories at. I'm not in Mt. Clemens very much anymore since I moved, but when I'm visiting my parents, this place is always at the top of the list of places for dinner. Give it a whirl if you're looking to stretch a buck!

This place has good food and good service. The staff is great. The food is good you always leave full. It's just a great place to bring the family and my whole family loves it. Will be back and have been.

All I can say is WOW! Awful service never got to the food but the sad salad I ordered asking for more lettuce and the cook told the waitress I needed to order another one. We're talking no lettuce. I was in shock . I said fine order another. When our waitress came over a sweet girl, I just said what's the deal. Out of nowhere another waitress I'm assuming is the owners daughter gets in my face and told me I was being a drama queen and to a gay man a customer I was taken aback. I told her to but out, she continued we got up and left. All I can say is what a horrible experience. Class A Dump

Another stellar meal! With plenty of seating, I was able to beat the crowds and order almost immediately. A quick scan of the Monday specials menu showed they offered broccoli and shrimp alfredo. This meal came with soup and salad, and complimentary dessert. I ordered their vegetable soup (with a tomato base) and it was excellent. Their salad with bleu cheese was equally great. Once the entree arrived, I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it. I tried, but ended up feeling guilty for having to take most of it home in a to go container. Another wave of guilt for accepting the bowl of rice pudding with whipped cream and cinnamon on top. Unless you are ravenously hungry, expect to take home some of your meal - or just grab someone to take with you and split the meal. I highly recommend!

Cozy, locally owned diner that is very inviting. Frank and his staff do a great job making everyone feel like family. I've eaten here 100+ times and always look forward to my next visit. This isn't gourmet, it's comfort food made with care at an affordable price. My favorites include the omlettes, kabobs, gyros, fish & chips, and definitely the royal melt.
